INSTRUCTIONS

Project 1: Instructable Infographics
For this project, we were required to design an infographic of a recipe from Pasta Grannies. We are free to pick the recipe so I picked a lasagna recipe by Maria because it's my favourite Italian dish as well as a certain orange cat's.

Attempt #1
BREAKDOWN
Fig 1.1 My breakdown notes

First of all, I watched the video several times and noted down the important steps and information to make this particular lasagna.

MOOD BOARD
Fig 1.2 Mood board

Whilst I was watching, I took some screenshots of interesting spots in the video and some infographics online for inspiration.

Fig 1.3 Attempt #1 Progress

Initially, I wanted to stack the lasagna like the ones in the mood board but due to time constraint, I rushed the project by making it a top down view on a baking tray. The title is on a cloth with a pattern that Maria used in her video.

When I'm done, I showed this to Mr. Hafiz for feedback. He said that there is a lack of visuals, confusing layout and has failed to communicate important information towards the viewer. Overall, this design doesn't work.

Attempt #2
Fig 1.5 Attempt #2 Progress

After hearing Mr. Hafiz's feedback, I decided to redo my infographic. I went back to my initial sketch, polished it and coloured it. Instead of a baking tray, the background is an apron and shirt that Maria's wearing throughout the video in an attempt to capture her personality.

ANIMATION

We are also required to create an animation for our infographic so I set up my artboards so it's easier for me to animate.

Project 2
Exercise 3: Kinetic Typography
This exercise is a group project and we have to animate a typography video of a song. Our group leader, Kabir, suggested "Glass Animals". I have never heard that song before but I have no other suggestions so I just went with it. Besides, Kabir seemed passionate about this exercise and knew what the final product should look like.

After a brief discussion, I was in charge of the first and last section of the song as highlighted. I had no idea how to make a lyric video so I turned to YouTube: How to make a Lyric Video

The two videos above are the sections that I've done. I tried to download effects such as fire but my computer couldn't handle it. In fact, I have to save my progress after every change in case the app crashes, which it will and which it did.

Exercise 4: Animation Chart/Graph
This week, I was assigned to animate a donut chart for the level of stress in college students.

One thing I like to change from the original is the colour. If high stress is red, then moderate stress should be yellow.

Exercise 5: Vector Animation
This week, I am required to animate a scene of hitchhikers.

I've applied "wiggle" to the man's hand so that it moves up and down. I've also discovered that when I apply "wiggle" to "position" instead of "rotation", it makes the car sort of vibrating like it's running on engine.

FEEBACK

Project 1
The visuals are limited. Not sure of the layout flow. Does it read in a clockwise manner? Nothing wrong with simplifying, but once it fails to communicate important information, then this design doesn't work.

REFLECTION

Project 1
I found myself to be giving into stress by abandoning my original sketch at the start when it's already simplified and good. I basically sabotage myself. It cost me time and energy to stay up late at night to finish it. Perhaps if I showed my initial sketch to Mr. Hafiz instead of my first submission, I would stick to my idea and not simply further for the worse.

Project 2
My computer is going to explode! I was so frustrated that After Effect keeps on "not responding". Nevertheless, I'm glad that I pulled through this project. There was a lot of pressure on me because I'm doing the first section, which is the first part viewers will see. My output pales in comparison to my group member's output with stunning visuals and typography. But I believe keep on practicing, I'll reach their skill level.
