Week 1: FLIP Topic 1
INSTRUCTIONS

Task 1 (Group): Different Types of Infographic
Our very first task is a group project in class where we research and create a slideshow on different types of infographic and their uses.

Task 2 (Individual): Infographic Re-design
We each have to re-construct a poorly designed infographic poster on a online tool.
Fig 1.1 One poorly designed infographic, 15.1.2022 (Week 1)

This infographic appears messy and unorganized. I felt that it could be better. Half of the page is filled with unnecessary information. Many things on the left side is unrelated to the title. What does flirting and hosting parties have to do with house cleaning? The lack of visual representation and clutter of words make the infographic a chore to read. Pun intended.

Rough Sketches
  1. All the things list down in four separated boxes and the "We can do it!" lady in the middle
  2. Information arranged into a fridge
  3. An alternative to the first sketch. The lady is saying the title

Firstly, I traced the lady from an image online on Illustrator. For this project, I used Canva. I pasted her onto the infographic and then arranged the boxes accordingly. In the original infographic, many sentences start with "clean your" so I decided to remove the two words and created a short listing of things to clean by referring back to the original. Of course, I've removed the entirety of the left half since they're all unrelated to the title.

I wanted my re-design to be motivational and joyful so there's a bright orange sun on a yellow background.

Personal Rating + Review

Difficulty/Intuitiveness 5/5
Canva is beginner friendly. Using it is as simple as drag and drop images onto the template. I felt comfortable using it to design my infographic due to its simplicity. There's no need to watch a video tutorial.
Usefulness 4/5
Canva provides you with pre-made infographic templates which are useful if you don't know where to start. You can also search images on the site or upload your own.
Design templates/Choices 3/5
Despite all that, most of the templates and images are behind a paywall. This is one of the reasons why I've traced the lady on a different app instead of using the choices provided by Canva.

REFLECTIONS

I find this task fun to do, exploring a different app outside of Adobe.
