Tip:  If one can recognize the character through its silhouette, then the character design is strong.

Mr Hafiz taught us the usage of pathfinder and shapebuilder to create values in Adobe Illustrator.

INSTRUCTIONS

Task 1: Vormator Challenge
For this task, each of us were given the same of set of shapes shown below to create an unique character design.

Fig 1.6 Set of Shapes, Week 2 (7.9.2022)

In my head, I was thinking about creating a wizard character.
Fig 1.7 Vormator Challenge Progress, Week 3, (14.9.2022)

Step by step progress (Left to Right)
  1. Firstly, I trace and compose shapes together to create a silhouette of a hooded figure holding a staff.
  2. I then colour the figure. I give him purple robes because it gives off a mysterious vibe.
  3. After learning about pathfinder, I add shadows to him.
  4. Since he looks like he's summoning something with his arms in the air, I add some tentacles emerging from the ground.

REFLECTIONS

Experience
Mr. Hafiz appears to be very chill. During the first week, I couldn't access to Adobe and he was kind enough to lend me his account. I was afraid of being punished at the time but Mr. Hafiz calmly offered a solution to my problem.

Observation
I noticed that I learned better by sitting closer to the lecturer. It was easier to hear and ask him questions directly. Although, I'll have to arrive to class early to get the front row seats.

Findings
I like this task as I like creating my own characters. However, I've found out that I keep forgetting the placement of tools in Adobe Illustrator. Perhaps more time and practice on the app will help me familirise its workplace.
